Reminds me of my days as an English teacher… Where would I even begin to slash through things with my authoritative red pen?
Which reminds me of an idea I had for a post that really isn’t developed enough to be a stand-alone post, so I’ll just insert it here:
I’ve just crossed off another item from my “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” list: being a translator. These past few weeks my coworkers have really been exploiting my translatory abilities with English-Spanish and Spanish-English translations of text between 1 word and 25 pages long. Generally I enjoy helping out, showing off, circulating some blood through the left-side of my brain again, but on Monday I sat down and did the greater part of a 25-page document of Colombian regulations pertaining to labeling food products–defining obscure terms on the nutrient amounts required by diabetics, establishing parameters on the quantities and concentrations of microscopic particles permitted in food intended for babies, etc etc… It was horrendously boring, although greatly appreciated by my colega, and now joins English teacher on the list of things I don’t mind doing for about five minutes but wouldn’t want dedicate myself to full time. So far Graphic Designer seems to be working out, but who knows how I’d feel about it if I didn’t have some translation work to break it up…
